Thankfulness

As I was taking Bailey, our boxer, to the vet yesterday, I listened to Shane and Shane and was encouraged.  Funny how easily I forget simple phrases in God’s word.  One of the songs was from a Psalm–“This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.” How easily I forget it is the Sovreign God, our creator and sustainer, that gives me life this day for a distinct purpose–to know Him joyfully and make Him Known.  Anxieties about meetings or cleaning or finances or the future crowd out the simple joy of having another day to know him and rest in him.  We, many times, define life by what we do not have instead of looking around at the wealth of relationships, a warm bed, plenty of food, more than ample clothing, a place to worship, etc.  I am guilty of not thanking him hourly or even daily for his faithful provision.  It is so easy to covet and think about what someone has that is “better”, but I am blessed beyond all measure.   Most of all, I forget daily to thank my Redeemer for the abundant life he has given me through the death and ressurection of Christ.  He has given me his Spirit to walk with me and refine me and bring fruit in me which brings glory to Him.  The power of Almighty God which raised Christ from the dead is in me.  There is nothing that is impossible with God.  May I be thankful and full of prayer remembering that truth today.  This IS the day the Lord has made…let us rejoice and be glad in it!
